PL: I’m standing here with Jan Mølby, former Liverpool legend and National Team player from Denmark playing at EPT Copenhagen. How’s it going for you?

JM: Well, I’m still in the tournament, I’ve got 50,000 which is some way below the average but it’s been an extremely tough day. I’ve had nothing so I’ve had to use my tight table image to pick up a few pots. But hopefully the cards will sing.

PL: I’ve heard that you learned to play poker on the bus in Liverpool?

JM: Yeah, that’s kind of how it happens you know when you travel a lot on the buses or you go to the World Cup or the European championships a lot of times you get up to playing cards.

In the mid 90s we had a lot of young players on Liverpool and the card games we were playing weren’t quick enough for them so we started to play poker.

Then when I retired, obviously we had the poker boom online and I just continued.

PL: Are there any good players from that time that are playing now or were they good at that time?

JM: There’s plenty that think they’re good players but there isn’t many. There’s obviously players from other clubs from my time in England like Teddy Sheringham and Tony Casterino are professional poker players but of the boys I played with no, they were just ultra, ultra aggressive.

PL: How do you approach this (poker)? Do you feel that you are learning every day or just picking up new stuff?

JM: Yeah, I think so. Obviously poker evolves all the time. There’s new ways of playing.

Fifteen years ago you played ABC poker everybody knew if you raised you had a good hand. Now it’s all about creating situations. You play the man, you play the moment, you play your position.

There’s so many things to take into consideration.

PL: I saw you talk to Jesper Hougaard just a second ago. Did he give you any good advice?

JM: Well, we’re kind of on the same team with Bet24 so he… you can never get too much advice.

I’ve found this from day one that poker players are very open with their advice and I do appreciate it.

PL: Thanks Jan, good luck the rest of the way.

JM: Thank you.

While at Liverpool Mølby scored a total of 62 goals - 42 of them from penalties. He was only stopped three times from the penalty spot in his career at Liverpool and still holds the club record for most penalties scored.
