After participating in high-stakes shorthanded games with a select group of Chinese degens, and a few American pros, durrrr went heads-up with a particularly brave businessman from Shanghai.
It was reported that over the course of two sessions Dwan bled his opponent for a net profit of 48 million HKD, about $6.2 million. Apparently this guy can handle losses like that since he's said to have dropped a lot more than that in these games over the last two years.
These reports look to be pretty solid, since they were posted by people confirmed to be on location, witnessing things firsthand. But it's important to remember that these two sessions were just a small part of the poker Dwan played in the last week.
According to Dwan's close friend David Benefield the net result of durrrr's heads-up play in Macau was negative. According to Matt Savage, however, Dwan finished the week as an overall winner. Savage was directing the APT event in Macau at the time and played a central role in getting info on these games up on the net.
That tens of thousands of people want to know the exact numbers for these games poses a fundamental problem. The players themselves don't want this information to be made public, for obvious reasons.
Tournament wins are one thing; players enter major events forewarned that should they win, everyone's going to know about it. The same goes for televised cash.
Private games fall outside this sphere of media scrutiny and until the tax laws change we're going to have to put up with incomplete information.
