Gimmick of the Week: Full Tilt's On Demand SNGs

The On Demand concept is very simple. All it means is that there’s late registration, usually for the first three levels. Right now only Rush and Super-Turbo SNGs are available with the On Demand twist.

We’re all familiar with late reg for MTTs but it seems a little weird to apply it to 45-man SNGs. First of all, a 45-man has 45 players by definition. What possible reason could there be to extend the registration and allow a so-called “45-man” to reach 200 players?

Ostensibly created to reduce wait times for the player, since there’s almost always a running On Demand SNG with late registration ongoing, this new format has already received criticism from the grinders who have fine-tuned their SNG strategies.

One of the biggest complaints is the collateral damage this new gimmick is causing to other micro- and low-stakes SNGs. Critics of On Demand tournaments say that the fish generally sign up for the first thing they see, whatever will get them in action the fastest.

Since so many fish are being attracted to On Demand events, fish that usually don’t multi-table, the regular 45, 90 and 180 person SNGs are drying up.

While we’ve noticed this to a certain extent it hasn’t had the dramatic effect some people have attributed to it.

It’s also been said that the shorter wait times are creating a more chaotic, action-fueled temp to the tournaments. We can say from experience that this is 100% true, especially for Rush Poker.

Rush On Demand Rush events start when 45 players are registered but routinely break the 200 mark by the time registration is done. These Rush events were already pretty volatile but with the ability to bust one and jump directly into another they’ve gotten even looser.

The Bottom Line

We like the On Demand gimmick for the 45-player Rush SNGs. People have played bad in these tournaments since they were introduced and with On Demand the prize pools are bigger and the action is even looser.

Get a feel for Rush Poker and play good poker. There’s money to be made.
