By now it's no secret that Maria Ho is not only the charming host of the Battle of Malta, she’s also one of the best poker players in the world.
Already a two-time Last Woman Standing in the WSOP Main Event, in 2016 she made another deep run before eventually finishing in 242nd-place.
To get there, she obviously threw her skill around plenty over the first few days. She also, this time around, needed a little dose of luck.
Debunking the AK Myth
It’s Day 4 of the Main Event and players are angling to make the next pay jump. For the short stacks, this means they have to take more risks.
In the best-case scenario, though, you just get a strong hand. In this hand Maria finds ace-king, that mythical hand with the reputation "looks good, but rarely wins."
With just 21 big blinds in front of her there’s no question -- the money has to go into the middle. Maria needs to get action so when she sees Cole Jackson put a re-raise in, she probably even likes it.
Soon an all-in and call are announced and all Maria can do is smile in the face of the best possible Texas Hold’em starting hand.
She has just 7% equity as they go to the flop. The king on the flop gives her some hope. What happens next is not to be missed!
