Three-time WSOP bracelet winner and freestyle rapper Jeff Madsen says travel, freedom and weed culture are just a few of the things poker pros and rappers have in common.
Madsen stormed the poker world in 2006 with two WSOP bracelet wins and a few years later was back on ESPN in a rap music video with Liv Boeree, Joe Sebok and Amanda Leatherman.
“I make music with Prahlad Friedman sometimes and there's Brett Richey,” Madsen said of his fellow poker rappers.
“There's The Saurus who's a battle rapper that plays poker. There's a few guys, Alex Fitzgerald. So there's a little bit of a movement I guess.
“But I think I'm the best rapper, freestyle and just pure rap.”
In the last few years there have been several more amazing entries in the poker rap history books, and Madsen doesn't find the crossover surprising at all.
“Poker and rap kind of go hand in hand,” he said. “They're both kind of this job where you have freedom and travel a lot and it's artistic. Poker is artistic expression in a way. Weed culture I guess.”
