Reigning World Champion Joe McKeehen – winner of $7.6 million in the 2015 WSOP Main Event – has since moved up into the realm of high stakes and done quite well.
He came second in this year’s PCA High Roller and made the final table at this year's $111,111 Big One for One Drop in Las Vegas. Then he had the misfortune of running into this cooler against one of the hottest players in poker.
Limp Chain Reaction
Let’s have a look at the tournament with the highest buy-in at this year’s World Series – the $111,111 Big One for One Drop. 183 players registered and generated a fantastic $2 million for charity.
Of course, there was also quite a bit of money to be made for the players. In this hand there are six players left who’ve all secured $830,000.
That’s pretty good money even for high-limit players, but who wouldn’t be looking straight at the $5 million main prize for the last man standing?
We’re looking at a hand that begins with a move you don’t see as often anymore – the good old limp. Jack Salter uses it from early position and creates a limp chain reaction.
Four Guys, Three Hearts, One Fedor
Fedor Holz, Brian Green and McKeehen, holding K♥ 6♥ in the big blind, all come along to see a flop that everyone is at least a little happy about.
The dealer puts three hearts on the table, giving the World Champ a nice, clean flush. He couldn’t have hit the flop any better; the problem, though, is someone else has too.
In this tournament, especially, there was one guy who almost always had the better hand – Fedor Holz.
All the chips went into the middle and McKeehen quickly found out how Lady Luck had mistreated him this time. Watch the video above for the evidence.
Triple Threat as Underdog
For Holz this hand was just a taste of things to come.
In the next two hands Holz eliminated two more players getting into it as the underdog. Then he went on to bust his last two opponents, Koray Aldemir and Dan Smith, too.
It began with this cooler.
